About

The MK Millies Red Hat Chapter

Who are we?

The MK Millies is a registered UK chapter of the Red Hat Society based in the USA. We have been in existence in Milton Keynes for approximately ten years, and have a very active thriving chapter. Red Hatting is non-political, non-religious and non-formal. It is fun, frivolous and for making friends with like minded women.

Why Red Hats?

The formation of the society was based on the poem “Warning” by Jenny Joseph which starts: “When I am old I shall wear purple, with a red hat that doesn’t go….” in other words it’s about growing older with a sense of fun. Therefore at outings and gatherings all members are expected to wear their red hats/headgear and predominantly purple outfits.

What do we do?

We run a number of regular events such as coffee mornings, breakfasts, small group activities ranging from walking to reading groups, drama, crafts and music. We also organise one off events such as visits to special events, theatre and cinema visits, special meals, and various trips. These are all listed on this website, and on our Facebook group.

What are the benefits of belonging to the MK Millies?

You will have the opportunity to meet a large number of friendly like-minded women who will welcome you whether in small groups or at larger events. As well as making new friends you will have the chance to do things that you may never have done before or have not been able or willing to do on your own. You will have FUN!

How much will this cost me?

The annual membership fee is £10 and runs from January to December. Anyone joining mid-year will be charged pro rata at £1 per month for the remaining months of the year. Fees are non-refundable and are used to pay affiliation fees to the USA Red Hat Society, web hosting and other chapter expenses at the discretion of The Queen and Vice Queens. Accounts can been available to view on request.  We ensure that the activities and events are not all expensive – some like the regular walks cost nothing. Obviously visits to the theatre and some outings can be more expensive but where possible we get a group rate for tickets and travel.

How do I join?

Email us at: [email protected] and we will let you know what information we need from you and how to pay the joining fee.
